[TESTING] Windows 10, version 22H2 (Build 19045)? A NEW FEATURE UPDATE?
TEST: Installing Windows 10 Build 19045.1806, Version 22H2! [FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY]
Microsoft plans to keep supporting Windows 10 until at least late 2025, which means users can expect more « feature updates » to arrive in the upcoming years. One of such updates, version 22H2, has been just confirmed by the latest optional updates.
IMPORTANT NOTE: There has been no official announcement from Microsoft regarding the next version of the operating system. Thus, I DO NOT RECOMMEND TRYING THISD OUT YOURSELF!!!

This week, Microsoft has released the Windows 10 KB5014666 cumulative update preview to Windows Insiders on the Release channel, allowing them to test upcoming fixes before they are previewed by the larger Windows 10 user base next week.
According to Windows Latest, the latest Insider preview update includes an enablement package that allows you to « turn on » Windows 10 22H2.
Those Windos 10 users who downloaded KB5014666 can activate version 22H2 using several commands in Command Prompt.
An enablement package acts as a « master switch » that enables dormant features already present in Windows 10 21H1 and upgrades the Windows version and build number.
Once you execute the enablement package script commands, your Windows version will be changed to Windows 10 22H2 build 19045.1806, as shown in the video.
While this enablement package changes your installation to Windows 10 22H2, it does not actually introduce any new features and is cosmetic only.
However, not many new features are expected for Windows 10 22H2 as Microsoft is focusing its development on Windows 11.
Instead, we will likely see security improvements, deprecation of various features, and performance enhancements.
IS IT WORTH TESTING?
No. It is worth noting that force-enabling Windows 10 22H2 will not get you any new features. In fact, Windows 10 22H2 may not bring any consumer-facing capabilities at all. Microsoft will most likely release it as a small enablement package, as it was with several previous « feature updates. »
For a regular consumer, there is no sense in enabling the next update before Microsoft officially releases it. This just confirms that Microsoft still cares about Windows 10, even though all the good stuff is now exclusive to Windows 11.
