STARTING IN CYBER SECURITY 🔐 There is so much that I can share on this topic, but here are a few tips summarised:
If you already have a degree and are struggling… building skills and gaining knowledge, along with building your network will be vital to you.
Starting without a degree, consider focusing on certifications such as Security+, Network+, or an ethical hacker certification like PTNP. These certifications demonstrate your knowledge of various aspects of cyber security.
While you gain certs, BUILD YOUR SKILLS! There are so many platforms for this , TryHackMe is one of my favorite platforms.
Next, look into entry-level positions such as Security Analyst, Security Engineer, Security Operations Center Analyst, Security Administrator, or Penetration Tester. These positions do require prior knowledge of cyber security, so having certifications and a good level of knowledge will give you an edge over the competition.
If you do not have prior experience, there are many ways to gain this, through freelancing, bug bounty hunting, recorded labs etc.
Next, build a good network as you go. LINKEDIN is great for this purpose.
Lastly… there are also so many nontechnical options to explore, we are only getting started.
