SSCI Seminar Series – The Cerebral Haemodynamics of Vigilance Decrement in Cyber Security
Cyber Security Analysts need to constantly monitor complex consoles to detect and respond to Cyber Threats, but Cognitive demands cause attention lapses with shorter time spans mostly
after 20 minutes or so. These lapses can be detected using a wearable Brain scanner, demonstrated by the Western Australian Cyber Defence Task (WACDT) simulation project. It was found that these lapses in attention have a characteristic cerebral haemodynamic signature that indicates when Network Defence Performance declines and improves, under different compositions of Command & Control consoles.
