Sidenote: Sony PS2 Linux
A quick look at the official Linux distribution for the Playstation 2.
The idea was that you could code your own games, in a similar fashion to the PS1’s Net Yaroze, I think. The scene is pretty much dead today (early 2000s were its heyday) so I feel it’s mostly a curiosity, considering also the limitations instituted by Sony and the meagre 32MB of RAM.
I’ll get it up and running in a later video – I need to find the sync-on-green VGA cable first.
When I ordered it from Sony it came with the following:
[1] Linux for PS2 software
[2] PS2-branded USB keyboard & mouse
[3] Combined network & IDE hard drive interface
[4] 40GB hard drive
[5] VGA + RCA stereo audio cable
I have since upgraded the IDE interface to SATA and installed a solid state drive.
