Recapping a Macintosh LC 475 that has no sound
Old electronic devices with electrolytic capacitors are often affected by capacitor leakage.
This Macintosh LC 475 has no sound – a common symptom of leaky capacitors. Here is a brief tutorial describing the process of replacing old, damaged capacitors in a Macintosh LC 475 logic board.
IMPORTANT ADDENDUM!
I plugged in some headphones and the sound was fine, which indicated that the sound chip was okay. That left three probable options: the audio amplifier, the speaker or the switch that deactivates the speaker when headphones are connected. I tested the speaker, which turned out to be okay, so I decided to replace the mono amplifier IC at U32, and that fixed the problem!
