Quick Tip – Macintosh Portable Battery and Charger Options
Jason’s Macintosh Museum presents a « Quick Tip » video, explaining how you can source replacement batteries and AC adapters for the Macintosh Portable.
As the Portable uses Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries, the original batteries will become completely unusable if they are left to discharge completely. However, compatible replacement batteries are cheap and easy to find (but they do require some modifications to work in the Portable).
NOTE – do not attempt to run a Macintosh Portable without a partially charged battery! The power supply circuitry is not designed to function off the AC adapter alone. In addition, do not use any AC adapter with a maximum current output of more than 1.5A at 7.5V! The power supply circuitry does not have any built in current limiting – it relies on the AC adapter for that.
