Macintosh 512Ke – iMac G4 (AppleShare/LocalTalk/WiFi)
In this video I introduce some of the basic AppleShare file serving systems I have set up between my various Macs. Using the AppleTalk protocol over LocalTalk, Ethernet, and WiFi, I upload a picture from a 1986 Macintosh 512Ke, to a server hosted on a 2002 iMac G4. This demonstrates the incredibly long compatibility span of the file sharing protocol and is rather impressive to see working with so few issues despite the various hardware adapters.
I also demonstrate how all clients are notified about an imminent server shutdown, one of the particularly delightful features of AppleShare.
Feel free to ask me any questions about how to set this up if, like myself, you find yourself strangely interested in these things.
