LinuxSystemes d'exploitation

Install Linux and don't suffer.

Okay, yeah, leeching off Luke Smith with the title. But it’s kind of the point, cause I’m crediting part of this video to the man.

My opinion on how to install a Linux system and how to befriend it and not suffer.

Steps to happiness with any Linux:

1. Accept that Windows and Mac are just spying on you and you don’t want it anymore.
2. Create a boot stick, or several and test the look & feel.
3. Install the linux you like on a computer alongside your windows or on a separate older computer.
4. Use the linux and be happy.
5. If you’re unhappy, educate yourself until you have the skills to resolve your problems.
6. Be happy and not spied on.

Just to be clear: I absolutely DO hate on Apple in this video. The more people I can get to ditch this crappy, unsustainable, planet-deprecating, mankind-exploiting brand, the better. Come to the dark side and join a bunch of entitled nerds who think they’re sysadmins while secretly googling stackexchange code snippets all day!

Honestly though, even no computer is better than a Mac. Pen and paper is better than Mac. And some nerds being mean should not keep you from making the one good choice. On the contrary, if that is your mindset, you should look up how Jobs really came to his fortune, that filthy thief. Praise Ritchie! Praise the penguin. Blessed be the root.

Okay, I’m just messing with you guys. I just love trolling to much. In the end, all I want is people not taking the choice of system to seriously. And I want them to be more aware of flaws in commercial systems and to be able to put those in perspective to the flaws in open source software.

This video is about how to switch to Linux (from Mac or Windows), it is not a step-by-step tutorial, but more of an introduction to Linux for everyone who is interested, and does already have some kind of knowledge on the topic. The video is inspired by the introductory lecture I would give to my students in university in the context of a scientific writing and LaTeX class. I could talk about this stuff ad nauseam. But for more vertigo-inducing details on my crude choice of system views, I must refer you to future content. And to the comment section. Please be nice, I don’t have a lot of time and I definitely will not reply to sh!t comments.
