Beyond Trees network commemorates UN International Day of Forests 2024: Forests and Innovation

Throughout 2024, the Beyond Trees network and the U.S. Forest Service’s Office of International Programs will commemorate the United Nations International Day of Forests through a series of webinars, newsletters and stories highlighting partners’ work to reflect on the theme for 2024: Forests and Innovation.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Forest Service Office of International Programs Peru, through the FOREST+ program, work with the Government of Peru to meet its international climate change commitments through sustainable forest management. As part of this effort, FOREST+ collaborated with Peru’s National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) in developing a digital training platform, SERFOR Educa, that provides forestry professionals with access to free courses to support their professional development.
SERFOR Educa was created in 2020 and provides 25 training courses and programs on topics that help professionals understand forest and wildlife legislation, sanctions procedures, the forest concession operations logbook (for timber traceability), carbon management, and other topics. The platform uses virtual tools and digital learning models to generate interaction and peer-to-peer learning; it promotes equal participation of men and women, all ages, backgrounds and accessible from anywhere with internet access. The platform was recognized as a Good Practice in Public Management in 2021 and has 10,000 active users.
