Electrolytic Capacitor replacement on an Apple Macintosh LC III
Welcome to Jason’s Macintosh Museum!
In this video, I replace the failing electrolytic capacitors on the logic board of my Macintosh LC III.
In my video « Bad Capacitors », I explain how failing capacitors on an old Apple Macintosh logic board can cause a the system to not boot, or have no audio.
In the case of my LC III, there was up to a 2 minute delay between powering the system on, and hearing the startup chime. A delay like this is a sure sign that the electrolytic capacitors are failing.
If you have basic soldering skills, you can attempt this yourself. I am sure that there are many different methods for removing the old capacitors from the board, but this is the method that has worked best for me.
It is important that you exercise extreme care when removing the old capacitors from the logic board. You can easily lift the solder pads off the board if you are not careful – this happened twice to me during the making of this video!!
