Classic Mac Pro Thunderbolt upgrade – unboxing the Titan Ridge card
The classic Mac Pro remains one of the most versatile and expandable Macs ever, with incredible longevity and great performance.
As I prepare to hopefully move abroad, I prepare my computer to be able to host my digital life by itself, as I will be very far from my dependable HP MicroServer.
It was hard to find the Gigabyte GC-Titan Ridge in the used market, so I went on eBay and purchased a pre-flashed one from the US. Today, I unpacked and installed it, configuring it also with DisplayPort bonding and pass-through.
The GC-Titan Ridge card is a PCIe 4x card with the Intel DSL7540 Thunderbolt 3 controller and 2 ports (USB-C compliant). It also supports power delivery 3.0 up to 100W when connected to auxiliary power, and up to 12 daisy-chained devices (6 per port).
