The Steam Deck Verified program is moving along, adding 25 to 30 new titles per day to the list of games that you can play on your steam deck.
Unfortunately, this program has issues, outlined by the case of Apex Legends. A few days ago, Apex got Certified on the Steam Deck: the developer added the required files for anti cheat to work on Linux, and so the game was 100% playable, on the Deck, and on regular Linux distros.
And yesterday, after an update, that file got removed, which made the game unplayable for everyone on Linux, or on Steam Deck. But the compatibility rating stayed « Certified », because Valve didn’t re-review the title to change that.
A few hours later, another update re-added the missing file, and the game now runs again.
All of that without any comment from Respawn, the developer, or from Valve. It’s stuff like that that needs more polish to not look like gaming on the Deck is basically a hack. Valve needs to inspire more confidence in their « certified » seal of approval for games on the Deck
