I got the 16gb m1 mac mini. The thing is a beast. And with GeForce Now, I can play PC games on it as long as my internet stays fast.

I’m going to get a Mac mini as i also have monitors and other accessories. The new IMac is so ugly and dated looking, Sometimes I think its a inside joke at Apple to see if they can make something ugly or ridiculous and see if people still buy it.

Hi Mark liked your video and you put me to think. Should I buy the IMac 2021 or buy a Imac mini I like your advice. Also I have the MacBook Air intel. I just want to use a computer for my College I am not a tech expert. So buying a Mac Mini M1so I still need to have a MacBook Air M1. I am a little confused if you could give me a final advice, please. Thank you Mark. Great video and a logic one.

Felt the same way about the new iMac. And, videos like this make me think maybe the answer to updating my late 2012 iMac is the Mac Mini.

I’m thinking of getting the new iMac with the m1 chip. I have a mid 2014 21.5 inch iMac… yeah its old and slow. But wanted to see if there’s a video of the advantages of getting the mini vs the new iMac?

The Mac Mini was the best little computer I ever had. I got one on the urging of a friend about 15 years ago. I didn't know much about computers. I used it 10 years without an upgrade and never had a virus. It was maintenance free. I finally had to upgrade because it just didn't have enough oomph but the $400 I spent then was the best money ever spent. Now I'm married to the ipad. But the Mac Mini was just fantastic, added a cheap monitor and a cheap keyboard and used that thing for all my work needs as well as surfing the net, etc. It never let me down.

The Mac Mini is perfect for folks who don't use the Apple peripherals. I type for a living, so I've never used the keyboards that come with my Macs, except when on the go with a laptop. I was so excited when the 2018 Mini came out as I'd outgrown my MacBook Air years ago. I already had two monitors, a keyboard, and a mouse. A laptop didn't make sense for that time in my life (and the only option for me was the Pro out of my budget), the iMac hadn't been updated in ages, and the Mac Pro desktop was way out of my budget. I specced my Mini to future-proof it for about five years and got a Pro-level Mac at a fraction of the price without having to pay for peripherals I wouldn't use. I don't remember the exact numbers, but the Mini was shockingly good value, something like half the price of a basic Pro desktop. I'll be ready to upgrade again in the next couple of years and am thrilled that there is yet another Mini to move to. Having upgraded the RAM and processor, my Mini runs MacOS and Windows (through Parallels Desktop) at the same time with aplomb.

Seems like an odd choice to have a portable monitor and home monitor to get the thermal overhead that the mac mini affords. Sounds to me like the macbook pro 13 m1 would have been a more proper choice for flexibility. But to each their own.

I wish the M1’s could do more monitors. I really want one at work, but I run triple monitors…

I edit videos on my late 2013 iMac with external ssd for FCP libraries and was wondering the same if I just should replace it with a mini. At least I know if it breaks, I can get an replacement that doesn’t costs a fortune.
It also seems like you can edit small videos in on an air if you are on the road
Edit: ah plug-ins. I have a few that uses Mocha. Good to be aware of to see if they support m1.

Update: Looks like they added more info about the 24" iMac since I finished this video. You can actually configure them with up to 16GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. Nice! (Would still take the M1 Mac Mini over it tho)
