I have one of these machines, what do you suggest for making it run cooler? I have a 1TB SSD installed and that didn't help with the thermal throttling

Just bought one. Gonna use an SSD and 8GB of ram.
    O think you've got a mid 2009, the late 2009 has a 2.53Ghz C2D, not a 2.26

    EDIT: Never mind.
    Early: 2.0Ghz
    Late: 2.26Ghz
    Server: 2.53Ghz

Nice review! I'm considering on buying an old 2010/2011 mac mini for streaming , if possible 4K content also, have you tried it? At least to know if the videocard is up to 4K content.

I still use my late 2009 Mac mini and had it 9 years and works amazing on El Capitan. I installed 8 gb on ram on mine and is a very good computer and works really good in 2018, it’s fast and silent apart from my CD player on the Mac does not work any more. I buy music online now so the CD doesn’t matter that it does not work.

HOW in the world did you get your model mac mini to upgrade to El Capitan? I'm stuck at 10.6.8… I run updater and it tells me I'm up to date. I open App Store and go to updates and there are no updates available for me there, either. HELP!?!?!
    Thanks.

I also have two late 09 mini's Both are 2.26GHz. I use one with 8GB RAM and and SSD for computing, then the 2nd with 4GB RAM for media, and is connected to my TV. And because I play all my media on the 2nd one, it leaves the main one's resources free for whatever computing needs I have each day.

Hello from Greece and thank you for the test. Could you try running some Netflix series? Does it support HD ? I want to buy one for my son's bedroom and use it as a streaming device for Netflix and Kodi and as a computer for internet, homework etc.

Ive one similar as yours, When I go to Safari it says I cannot upgraded. neither Chrome, and mozilla it says my system is not capable to download it. So what can I do ? as browser wise? I tried Netflix and it says that I need to upgrade my browser and obviously I cant so it's back to square one.

Pumping out video from the Mac Mini's video card will try it, you could probably fry an egg on it after five minutes but pumping 1080p video through iTunes to an AppleTV wont even cause it to break out into a sweat, 'I guess' the ApplyTV works as an external video card. However, Apple have messed this up for us with pre-2011 Mini's with their 'two step verification' process.

If you update your account with two step verification your older Macs will be locked-out, leaving them unable to stream video to your Apple TV. If you'd registered your old Mac with your account before you set-up Two Step verification you might be alright but not after.

I used to stream 1080p movies to my television via my AppleTV from an old headless G4 Mac Mini, but when I set-up a newer intel 2007 Mini to replace the G4 after it died I discovered I was locked-out because I had set-up two step verification. This has left me only using my 2007 Mini as a File Server… and although I could bug-out of their Two Step Verification process I've decided not to after nearly being successfully hacked. :O

Good video! If you want to record the screen without using software you could just use a video digitizer. Just a suggestion.
