Customers were confused when the iPhone 14 series debuted because the A16 Bionic chipset, which Apple had introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro, was new, while the A15 Bionic chipset, which had been used with the iPhone 13 pro, was new to the mainstream iPhone 14. With the introduction of the first 3nm A17 Pro chip this year, the iPhone 15 Pro made history and was expected to deliver significant performance gains, particularly in the GPU department. But the 4nm A16 Bionic from the 14 Pro was included in the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. I felt that this strategy was flawed in a number of ways, but happily, preliminary rumors suggest that this fragmentation will be lessened when the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro go on sale in late 2024.
