Hope you enjoy my video tutorial on OSPFv3 Address Family configuration and differences between legacy OSPFv3 configuration and the legacy OSPFv2 for IPv4 configuration. In this video I take a step-by-step approach to leveraging the new OSPFv3 AFI/SAFI and I also show how the new OSPFv3 AFI/SAFI configuration, is NOT compatible with legacy OSPFv2 for IPv4 routers – they will literally not form an adjacency! The reason is due to the fact that the legacy OSPFv2 routers will send their Hellos, DBDs, and LSAs with the AF-bit clear/not set (not what the OSPFv3 router running Address Family support is expecting to see!). The OSPFv3 AF-capable router will simply ignore them and the adjacency will never form – with IPv6, this is NOT an issue and will work just fine with the legacy IPv6 configuration methodology. I also show how 12.4 code does not have support for the new OSPFv3 Address Family configuration.
