Does The Macintosh Two-Page Monochrome Video Card Work With A Modern LCD Monitor? YES! #GPUJune
So you’ve got the 13w3 version of the Macintosh Two-Page Monochrome Video Card, and are curious about whether it works with modern LCD monitors? Well, YES, yes it does work! With a simple (and easily reversible) modification, you can use your Macintosh Two-Page Monochrome Video Card with an LCD monitor that supports at least 1280×1024 resolution!
Q: Why would you want to do this?
A: First off, good question… but the answer is WHY NOT? Who wouldn’t want a high-resolution grayscale-capable secondary display for their classic Macintosh? Fire up some QuarkExpress and do some page layout, or simply browse Macintosh Garden at previously unattainable resolutions!
Q: Won’t this damage my card?
A: Not in any way that I have been able to discover? I guess there is inherent risk in any sort of aftermarket modification, but based on the advice I’ve received from more learned people than myself, the level of risk is low.
Q: I own the later, DB15 version of the Macintosh Two-Page Monochrome Video Card. Will this mod work for me?
A: Not this exact mod, but a similar one would. You’d just need to bridge the RGB lines on the card, or find a DB15 to HD15 adaptor that allows you to do that with jumper settings.
Thanks for checking out the video, and happy #GPUJune, everyone!
