Cyber Security: Certifications, Entry Level Jobs, Imposter Syndrome, & Career Path to Finding a Job

Top Cyber Security Buzzwords – Imposter Syndrome, Gatekeeping, Certifications, Red Team, Blue Team, GRC, FAANG, and Branding, Entry Level Positions. All of these have one thing in common.

These above are the things that people are faced with every day.

1. Imposter Syndrome – What is it? Why do I have it? How do I deal with it? Will it ever go away?

2. Gatekeeping – Why are people telling me that I can’t do it. They don’t really know me, who are they to judge?

3. Certifications – I have no clue which way to turn. Yesterday someone told me I need my Security+. Today someone told me I need my CISM. All of the information conflicts. Who do I trust?

4. I hear Red team is the way to go. Or… was it Blue team? I don’t remember. What if I choose the wrong path? Someone even mentioned this GRC thing? Should I do that? Which should I try first?

5. They say I should be working for the FAANG companies (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google). Don’t I need to work at those companies to be successful?

6. What is this branding thing all about? Why do I keep seeing it every single day? I don’t have a business, so why do I need to worry about branding? I have a good resume, so it doesn’t matter right?

7. Entry level positions require 4 years of experience. Why are these considered entry level? If I don’t have the required experience, I shouldn’t be applying right?

I have dedicated myself to answering these questions for over year now. I kept seeing all of these questions and concerns that people had. They were getting so many different answers so I decided to buckle up and offer my hand for help since I had over 25 years in Tech / Cyber. I’ve been around the field the majority of my life. I understand how it works. I understand the nuances. I understand how Cyber Security companies think, mainly because I owned and operated one successfully until it was acquired.

I’m Mike. I write stories about this industry based on my experience and what I see. I do this so people can learn and apply it to their journey. I want to make your journey easier than mine was.

1. If you are still struggling with any of things I mentioned above I can help.

2. If you are already in cyber, but feel like you aren’t valued and that you are ready to level up, I can help.

3. If you want to grow your LinkedIn presence so that you gain visibility by recruiters, I can help.

I packed 25 years of experience into my Break in Cyber Playbook. It talks not only about how to break through these barriers to get into cyber, but also how to grow your presence so that you attract opportunity.

Will this book make you successful? NO. This book will give you the tools you need to be successful, but YOU are the only one that drives your success. If you need more than just the content I post, here’s the link to my downloadable book.
